Exactly one month ago, we made a big decision: to move house. Not “start thinking about moving,” not “explore the market”—but to actually commit. And today, just four weeks later, our house officially hit the market.
And yes, I’m celebrating—because this didn’t happen in a vacuum.
There’s a lot of uncertainty in the world right now. The global economy is shaky. In particular, Trump’s tariffs and the ripple effects of his recent policies have led to heightened stock market volatility. The investments we’d planned to cash out for a down payment on our next home have taken a nose dive. Meanwhile, here in Vancouver, the housing market has cooled significantly—it’s currently a buyer’s market, which is not ideal when you’re the seller.
By many measures, this might not be the “right” time to move.
But as a family, we’ve outgrown our space. I had made a commitment to our family that this was the year we would move. And so, we did.
In the last month, we:
- Packed up our entire house
- Moved in temporarily with my very generous parents (thank you!)
- Patched, sanded, washed, and painted walls and door frames
- Power washed and painted the porch, stairs and railings
- Planted the garden
- Replaced light fixtures
- Staged the space
- Got photos taken
- Organized and signed all the necessary documentation (including calling an ad hoc strata meeting—fun!)
- Pored over comparables
- Set a price
- Wrote a compelling listing
- And today… it’s live on MLS.
It has been an intense four weeks—full of physical work, emotional labor, and a whole lot of uncertainty. But here’s what I know: clarity often follows commitment, not the other way around.
Leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about acting with integrity, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. It’s about following through on your promises, especially the ones you make to the people who matter most.
If you’re facing your own version of a foggy future—whether it’s a team transition, a career pivot, or a major personal decision—remember: action creates traction.
We didn’t wait for the “perfect” moment to move. We created momentum—and I’m proud of how we’ve done it.
